About the role

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to join our Business Enablement team at Electoral Commission through to 26 March 2027.

You will play a key role in effective planning and delivery and embedding of key projects that support the delivery of the 2026 General Election, making a real difference to democracy in Aotearoa.

The salary band for this role is $108,140 - $120,160 depending on relevant skills and experience of the candidate.

Driving for results and stakeholder engagement will be the key to your success. You will be able to communicate effectively across all levels and develop influential and trusted relationships. You must be pragmatic in your approach and be adaptable to a changing environment.

You will also have :

  • Proven experience in successfully leading, managing and delivering projects on time, within cost and to the agreed quality.
  • Demonstrated expertise in building relationships and collaborating with a diverse range of Subject Matter Experts, internal and external stakeholders.
  • Well-developed analytical skills and excellent judgement, ability to think laterally in solving problems in a timely and effective manner.
  • Ability to tell an evidence-based story of the project to stakeholders and senior leaders.
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines and to apply good attention to detail.
  • Knowledge / awareness of Te Reo and Tikanga (desired).
  • Strong cultural awareness to encourage diversity and inclusion.

Ideally you will have a relevant tertiary qualification and / or 3+ years of project management experience, preferably in a business operations environment.

What you'll be doing

Key responsibilities for the Project Manager include :

  • Leading projects and / or electoral events throughout all phases of the project life cycle.
  • Developing and maintaining project artefacts and documentation.
  • Building effective relationships and consulting with business groups and external stakeholders to achieve successful project delivery.
  • Facilitating meetings and workshops to develop outputs or achieve a goal.
  • Actively identifying and managing potential risks and issues.
  • Contributing to efficient and effective electoral events and activities.
  • Being an active member of a high performing team.
