New Zealand's Trade Remedies team administers the country's trade remedies system, helping ensure that import competition is fair to New Zealand industries.

The team leads policy development for trade remedies legislation and is responsible for conducting investigations into alleged dumping and subsidisation of imported products, in line with domestic law and New Zealand's obligations under World Trade Organization (WTO) agreements.

The Trade Remedies team sits within MBIE's Trade and Supply Chains branch, which houses MBIE's core trade functions.

This broader team also works on international regulatory cooperation, tariff and supply chains policy, New Zealand's compliance with the OECD Guidelines for Responsible Business Conduct, the Trans-Tasman Mutual Recognition Arrangement, and the standards and conformance system.

We work closely with other parts of MBIE, the Treasury, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and regulators across government in the course of our work.

You will be involved in :

Gathering information from interested parties, including domestic industry, importers, and overseas manufacturers.

Analysing qualitative and quantitative data from a range of sources, and presenting findings in technical reports to support ministerial and senior leadership decisions — including whether to initiate trade remedies investigations and impose remedial duties.

Developing a working knowledge of New Zealand's trade remedies legislation and WTO jurisprudence, and helping to shape domestic practice in line with international obligations.

The role may also, from time-to-time, include work on other areas within the Trade & Supply Chains team's remit.

Sound judgment and critical thinking across technical work and while engaging with stakeholders

A collaborative and proactive approach to working in a small team, in an environment that can at times be fast paced

Excellent attention to detail across both numerical and written work

The following would be an advantage, but are not essential — we will support the successful candidate to develop subject matter expertise :

A qualification in accounting, economics, or law

An understanding of the World Trade Organization (WTO)
