Mechanical Design Engineer

Are you able to take the lead and ownership of design, able to clearly articulate your solution to your colleagues and client to work towards an agreed solution.

You will join a large Design and Delivery team undertaking a wide range of complex and technical design for capital equipment, machinery and structures. With a strong Engineering and Design leadership team in place, quality senior engineers working alongside you and a range of challenging project assignments work on, you will be well placed to grow and develop your capability.

THIS ROLE

The core focus of this role is the design of the Supporting Structures or Layouts, also known as the machine frame or base. This involves producing production layouts which integrate mechanical equipment with building constraints, ensuring compliance with safety & operational requirements and supporting project execution from concept through to delivery. The Structures or Layout provide a stable foundation for the machinery, ensuring proper operation and longevity. These structures are expected to address the individual needs of the client, be robust, capable of withstanding the machinery's weight, vibrations, and the loads it handles during operation.

EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND CAPABILITY

You will bring a wealth of experience in delivering practical design solutions from concept through to production. Your background will show proven success in working on complex projects, solving challenging design problems and collaborating with cross‑functional teams to deliver solutions in line with client requirement. Ideally you will have a several of the following attributes :

• Qualifications and appropriate experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer.
• Designing machinery, mechanisms, or fabricated assemblies (sheet metal, weldments, frames, conveyors, automation equipment, etc.).
• Working through the full design cycle : concept → CAD → detailed design → drawings → manufacture support.
• Able to demonstrate an understanding of structural engineering in a production environment from a mechanical perspective, with experience in calculations of stress strain and FEA highly regarded.
• Competent in assessing the strength and stiffness of mechanical and structural systems. Including determining design loads from standards, using assumptions to create FBD’s or models, calculating member loads and stresses by hand calculations or beam models.
• Possess expertise in machine design in a relevant organisation / industry.
• Superior Inventor solid modelling skills and experience, or similar CAD tool.
• Superior computer skills in the Microsoft 365 suites and ERP systems.
• Able to communicate information and ideas clearly, and concisely, in writing.
