Roles

These roles sit within the branch that produces all of New Zealand’s premiere macroeconomic statistics including the consumer price index (inflation), gross domestic product, and statistics about overseas trade. The positions are office‑based and we consider candidates in Christchurch, Wellington, or Auckland.

Responsibilities

The key focus is to lead, or support, the ongoing production of our existing releases. You will work in detail with data to produce statistics, using your coding, statistical knowledge, and problem‑solving skills to clean, validate, and analyse data on New Zealand’s economy. Training will be provided to help you understand methodologies, data interlinkages, and lead end‑to‑end production of key statistics.

What You Bring

  • Applied experience performing data analysis
  • A keen attention to detail – spotting what looks right, wrong, or missing
  • An ability to relate data to real world events – interpreting what the data tells us
  • A degree in economics, statistics, accounting, or other relevant field
  • A strong interest in macroeconomics
  • Well‑developed Excel skills and experience with SAS, R, or similar statistical coding languages
