Accountant

Overview

We're looking for an experienced accountant to join our small and supportive team at Lyttelsoft.

Based in the heart of Lyttelton (with great views and a bakery just downstairs!), we work with a wide range of clients across different industries and pride ourselves on building long-term, valued partnerships.

Responsibilities

Managing a portfolio of clients and preparing tax returns for a variety of entities, including companies, trusts, partnerships, and individuals.

Ensuring clients remain compliant with tax obligations while providing clear, practical advice when needed.

No two days are the same – you'll work with multiple businesses, gaining exposure to different industries and structures, and building relationships that help support our clients' success.

Preparing and reviewing income tax returns.

Preparing financial statements for a range of entities (companies, trusts, partnerships, individuals).

Liaising directly with clients to resolve queries and provide proactive support.

Ensuring compliance with New Zealand tax legislation and reporting requirements.

Assisting with tax planning and advisory work where needed.

Working closely with our team to continually improve processes and client service.

What we're looking for

Tertiary qualification in Accounting (or working towards CA / CPA).

Minimum 2 years' experience in a public practice environment, preparing tax returns.

Strong technical knowledge of NZ tax and accounting principles.

Proficiency with accounting software (Xero experience an advantage).

Excellent communication skills and confidence in dealing with clients directly.

A detail-focused, proactive approach with the ability to manage multiple clients and deadlines.
