Permanent Part Time

Dunedin Public Libraries is a network of six libraries and two book buses in Otepoti Dunedin.

We offer a wide range of programmes and services, and our team are passionate about providing a safe and welcoming environment for our community to learn, connect and enjoy.

Our Library Assistants provide the first point of contact for the public, providing assistance and making a meaningful impact to our community.

We are seeking a Library Assistant to join the Port Chalmers Library and Service Centre team.

This is a front-line customer service role and involves both Library and Council Service Centre duties.

Tasks range from reader's advisory, issuing and returning library materials, assisting customers in the use of technology, shelving, tidying, admin tasks, registering new members, assisting in DCC payments i.e rates and dog registration, and cash receipting.

About you :

As a Library Assistant, you are the first point of contact and the go-to person to answer queries, provide assistance and make a meaningful impact to our community members.

To be successful in this role, you will need :

To be an amazing communicator, reliable, positive, welcoming, and customer focused

To have previous customer service and administration experience

To have proven experience using different technology and systems, and can learn new processes quickly

To be resilient and be able to work independently and in a team, and be able to problem solve

To be digitally literate and comfortable in assisting customers with digital enquiries

Hours of work :

The normal hours of work are 19 hours per week as follows :

Thursday 9 : 15am - 1 : 15pm

Friday 9 : 15am - 5 : 30pm (with a 45min unpaid lunch break)

Saturday

  • am - 2.15pm
