About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Welding Engineer to support HERA’s Fabrication 4.0 / Welding Centre Division in conducting technical certification audits in accordance with ISO 3834 and AS / NZS 5131, as well as delivering related training and consulting services. This versatile role offers flexible working hours based at HERA’s headquarters in Auckland and involves regular travel to client sites.
About You
You are passionate about sharing your expertise with the industry and working directly with clients to deliver assessments in accordance with AS / NZS ISO 3834, AS / NZS 5131, and related standards. You bring broad technical expertise across inspection and NDT, site installation of steel structures or equipment, and protective coatings. You enjoy sharing knowledge by delivering specialised training courses and seminars. You have a structured, systematic engineering approach with strong report‑writing skills. Excellent communication, presentation skills, and deep technical knowledge in welding and fabrication are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct audits of welding quality management systems in line with ISO 3834
- Conduct audits of fabrication, erection, and protective coatings quality management systems in line with AS / NZS 5131 and equivalent standards
- Provide technical advice and commercial consulting to member companies
- Support the delivery of training courses in welding, inspection, and protective coatings
- Conduct specialised webinars and seminars for professional engineers
- Produce high‑quality technical reports
Essential Technical Experience
BE in Mechanical, Metallurgical, or Structural Engineering (NZ or equivalent)International Welding Technologist (IWT) or Engineer (IWE) qualification7+ years of relevant industry experienceExpertise in application of QMS systems (ISO 9001 and / or ISO 3834)Expertise in international welding standards (EN, ISO, AWS, ASME)Experience in the application and inspection of protective coatingsExperience in site installation, erection, and construction of steel structures or industrial equipmentStrong report writing and analytical skillsKnowledge of best practice health and safety requirementsAbility to work independently and deliver projects on timeStrong problem‑solving and analytical skillsAbility to work in multidisciplinary teams (design, production, IT, research)Effective communication skills for technical and non‑technical audiencesProject management and stakeholder engagement skills (especially if working with industry clients)High level of spoken and written English, with excellent communication skillsWhat HERA Offers
