About the Role

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Regulatory Specialist to join the Business System Delivery and Assurance (BSDA) team with Te Whakatairanga Service Delivery Branch.

The Building System Delivery & Assurance team is responsible for a range of building regulatory functions involving regulatory compliance, monitoring and assurance, and service delivery.

The Senior Regulatory Specialist role is responsible for contributing to the day-to-day support and customer education, contributing sound judgment and technical knowledge, and informing decisions on product investigations, warnings and bans.

This role calls for a focus on supporting compliance and monitoring functions across the team.

The role is responsible for technical coaching and mentoring of other team members and for resolving complex issues that arise.

The successful candidate will have a good understanding of the building regulatory system and experience working as a senior regulatory specialist within a team.

You will work closely with the Manager, Product Assurance & Investigations and Technical Lead, Building Regulatory Delivery to contribute to meeting the objectives of the wider Building Regulatory Delivery team.

Skills and Experience Required

Knowledge and experience applying the policies and procedures associated with the regulatory processes that are relevant to this role

Applying extensive knowledge of the Building Act and Building code gained from local or central government while assessing the building act and regulations.

Strong track record in providing senior support to a delivery focused team

Demonstrated experience in interpreting and applying the building regulatory framework

Experience providing coaching and mentoring for developing team members

Ability to apply critical thinking, and support decision making utilising legislation and technical experience

Well-developed technical writing ability

Have proven ability to develop trust and credibility with managers and staff including skills in managing upwards.

Previous building consent and building compliance experience desired however not essential.

Must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand
