Job Description
Machinists set up, operate, and maintain machines that cut, shape, or finish materials such as metal, wood, textiles, or plastics. They read and interpret technical instructions, measure and prepare materials, and ensure products are manufactured to precise standards of quality and safety.
Role Overview
We are seeking skilled Machinists to join our employer partners in New Zealand. The role involves preparing
and operating manual or automated machinery, producing and finishing parts or products, maintaining tools
and equipment, and ensuring work meets required specifications
Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret job sheets, drawings, or specifications.
- Select and prepare raw materials for machining.
- Operate machines such as lathes, mills, grinders, CNC machines, presses, or industrial sewing / woodworking machines depending on the role.
- Monitor machines during operation; adjust controls as needed.
- Inspect finished items for accuracy, dimensions, and quality.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of machines and tools.
- Follow workplace health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production targets
Requirements
Qualifications & Training
Trade qualification, apprenticeship, or relevant training in machining or manufacturing preferred.Experience
Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with machines in a production, workshop, or manufacturing setting.Experience with CNC machinery or specialised equipment desirable.Skills & Attributes
Strong technical and mechanical aptitude.Ability to measure and work to precise tolerances.Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.Physically fit; able to work on feet and handle materials.Strong safety awareness when working with machines.Team player with good communication skills.Working Conditions & Other Requirements
Based in workshops, factories, or production floors; may vary by industry.Work may involve noise, dust, sharp tools, chemicals, or repetitive tasks.May require shift work, overtime, or weekend hours depending on employer.Use of protective equipment (gloves, ear / eye protection, masks) as required.Please note : English Certificate is mandatory (PTE / IELTS).
Benefits
Indicative pay : Starting from NZD $31.61 per hour (as per INZ median wage requirement),
commensurate with skills, experience, and industry
