Purpose of the role

The Merchandise Lead (Merchandise Manager) is responsible for leading the merchandise supplier programme to deliver sustainable margin growth, both within COCO and the broader 2go network, through the commercial development of senior supplier relationships within the merch categories.

As a senior member of the Retail team, the Merchandise Lead will also play a key role in the development of best-in-class category process, along with projects as needed.

Key Accountabilities

Champion a safety culture across the business

Maximise margin performance through agreed supplier terms, co-op and promotional guidelines

Build sustainable and profitable one-up supplier relationships with merch suppliers

Develop efficient and effective Category Review processes in conjunction with the Senior Manager Retail & Convenience

Lead the day-to-day development and engagement of Category Leads as required

Support the delivery of compelling 2go promotional activity to deliver targeted growth for the 2go network

Chair the monthly Promo Planning Meeting

Lead / support broader Trading / Retail projects as required

Essential Skills and Experience

Strong direct / indirect people leadership capability with a track record of achieving results through coaching and developing teams (required)

Strong commercial background within complex organisations and an ability to deliver results in a fast-paced environment (required)

Senior retail category management / supplier category / sales experience in a NZ context (10 years +) (required), including :

  • demonstrated experience creating and delivering category processes and strategies;

demonstrated experience developing senior supplier / retailer relationships to achieve commercial results (required)

Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (required)

Understanding of a dealer / franchise operating model and ability to achieve within this framework (preferred)

Tertiary qualification in Marketing, Commerce or related discipline (preferred)
