Overview

Curriculum Advisor - Māori Medium at Ministry of Education New Zealand. This is a permanent, full-time role based in Porirua, NZ.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advice to leadership teams and kaiako on implementing curriculum, assessment and aromatawai changes with a whole-of-kura approach.
  • Support all learners who study through te reo Māori to implement the updated Te Marautanga o Aotearoa, building effective practices for quality teaching and learning.
  • Support professional learning to develop kaiako pedagogical content knowledge for Rangaranga Reo ā Ta and Pāngarau and other priorities as appropriate.
  • Provide kaiako with advice and access to quality resources to strengthen teaching, assessment and aromatawai knowledge, practice and skills.
  • Work within a regional team using the Curriculum Advisory Service to support kura-wide curriculum development and change, including Te Marautanga o Aotearoa.

Qualifications and capabilities

  • Fluent te reo Māori speaker with strong curriculum language use.
  • Deep understanding of bilingualism, te ao Māori, tikanga, and mātauranga Māori.
  • Effective curriculum design expertise and working knowledge of Māori Medium Education teaching; track record of improved outcomes for diverse communities is an advantage.
  • Strong understanding of assessment and aromatawai and how it guides quality teaching and learning.
  • Strong knowledge of the science of learning and effective teaching practices for a knowledge-rich curriculum.
  • Experience in whole-school curriculum planning and change management; ability to support professional change in education settings.
  • Pedagogical depth and ability to build others’ knowledge; please state your area of pedagogical expertise in your application.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain partnerships, with interpersonal, facilitation, and diplomacy skills; able to lead, motivate, and coach kaiako, teachers and leaders to build capability and implement change.
  • Full NZ driver licence and willingness to travel.
  • Willingness to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.

We work regionally with iwi and hapū and aim to strengthen relationships with diverse communities to support Māori and Pacific peoples, disabled learners, and learners from disadvantaged backgrounds.
