Overview
A cohort of University of Auckland medical students spend their final year in Taranaki doing attachments in medicine, surgery including ED, psychiatry paediatrics and obstetrics / gynaecology as well as in general practice and a variety of selective options.
The aim is to provide a provincial experience and ready them for their first intern positions.
They are very much part of the medical teams that they are attached to and attend all the teams meetings as well as involvement in acute admitting, inpatient care and outpatient clinics.
As they are TIs and not registered medical practitioners there are some restrictions on their practice such as prescribing medications but they are here to learn and enjoy being part of the Taranaki culture.
