An exciting full‑time opportunity exists for an experienced civil engineer to lead our team in our Auckland office. If you are passionate about working on diverse projects that change communities for the better, then this is the role for you!

Investing in the Future of Engineering

We are investing heavily in new forms of engineering delivery, including 4D BIM digital rehearsals using our Unity‑based Reveal platform. Integrated with our BIM, analysis and Synchro programming tools, this is redefining the way clients and contractors plan and deliver their projects.

Created in‑house by our own coding and programming teams, we also offer opportunities for engineers wishing to use their existing experience – or upskill in the fields of parametric design, data science, coding and programming.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure understanding of, and compliance with, all policies, procedures and work practices.
  • Ensure work is carried out professionally, effectively and efficiently and within company standards, policies and guidelines.
  • Ensure all decisions made are not obscured by bias and are in accordance with the Company’s Delegation of Authority.
  • Comply with all Workplace Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Undertake other duties as required to the role.

Duties

  • Promotion of Robert Bird Group to existing and prospective clients.
  • Effectively communicate RBG’s reputation for innovation, technical excellence, quality and project delivery.
  • Build and maintain effective and collaborative relationships that contribute to the success of the business.
  • Establishing new business with existing clients.
  • Allocation of projects to individuals or teams under your direction.
  • Resource management for projects and team members. Leading major projects including client relationship management, design and project management.
  • Provide expert technical and project management skills to support the ongoing activities of a multi‑disciplinary engineering team.
  • Assist in the training and development of all engineers under their direction and across the New Zealand Civils team.
  • Actively engage in the promotion and maintenance of a positive and collaborative office culture.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships and professional associations with counterparts within key RBG client organisations.
  • Experience and Knowledge

  • A minimum of 15 years’ experience as a civil engineer, working in a role within a professional office environment.
  • Chartered Professional Engineer, with knowledge and experience working to NZ Standards and Codes, and experience with local authorities and agencies.
  • Ability to apply and develop civil engineering principles, standards and concepts as well as generate technical reports as required.
  • Excellent technical leadership skills with the ability to lead a team of highly competent professionals and work with people at all levels of the organisation.
  • An innovative and creative approach with a willingness to think outside of the box to create growth opportunities.
  • A strong and evidenced track‑record of outstanding technical delivery.
  • A strong network within the sector and the ability to generate opportunities through leverage of this network.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to manage relationships with key stakeholders, both internally and externally.
  • Able to engage managers, employees and external parties to achieve safe outcomes balanced with delivering customer and commercial expectations.
  • Effectively communicate and represent the company to external parties and customers on all engineering matters.
  • Well‑developed analytical and research skills.
  • Well‑developed verbal and written communication skills including highly developed interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to independently achieve work objectives, to meet tight time frames and to prioritise work to meet business requirements.
  • Strong work ethic, positive team attitude and able to work in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills using the Microsoft Office suite.
  • High accuracy of work and outstanding attention to detail.
  • Ability to use initiative and implement new ideas.
  • Ability to work autonomously, take direction and work as part of a team.
