About the Role

The role sits within our Policy Group, which leads work across :

Regulatory management and strategic coordination
Regulatory stewardship across the public sector
Regulatory impact analysis
Second-opinion advice on major regulatory proposals across government

We’re looking for a seasoned policy professional ready to operate at a high level; someone confident leading workstreams, guiding others, and delivering high-impact advice across the public sector.

You’ll be part of our Regulatory Stewardship team, providing advice on cross-cutting issues that affect multiple regulatory systems and supporting agencies in their stewardship responsibilities. The work is varied, strategic, and often complex - requiring sound judgement, adaptability, and a systems-thinking mindset.

You’ll also have opportunities to contribute across the wider Policy Group and Ministry.

What you’ll bring

5+ years’ experience in public policy, ideally with exposure to regulatory policy and systems

A tertiary qualification (or equivalent government experience), with a background in public policy, law or economics a plus

Strong understanding of government processes, policy frameworks, and the machinery of government

Excellent communication skills with the ability to distil complex ideas and influence effectively

Proven ability to lead work independently and support others in a team setting

The ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders

Strategic thinking and political acumen

A genuine commitment to improving regulation for all New Zealanders.

Salary range : $108,126 - $143,618 dependent on skills and experience.
