Job Description

Lead a project where switching the infrastructure off is not an option. Seipp is delivering a $23 million infrastructure upgrade at the East Clive Wastewater Treatment Plant in Hastings, and we are looking for an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead it. This is not a standard civil project. The plant processes approximately 46 million litres of wastewater each day and must remain operational throughout construction. Delivering the upgrade requires careful staging, strong technical judgement and close coordination across civil, mechanical, electrical and specialist work. For a Senior Project Manager who enjoys solving difficult construction problems, this is an opportunity to lead a genuinely unusual and important piece of infrastructure. The project The two-year East Clive programme includes: Construction of a new permanent outfall pump station, approximately six metres in diameter and nine metres deep Replacement of ageing pumps, valves and associated mechanical equipment Replacement of the existing manifold Replacement of approximately 150 metres of the land-based outfall pipeline Complex connections into existing infrastructure while the treatment plant remains operational One of the most technically demanding stages involves drilling a one-metre-diameter opening into the active concrete outfall pipe while wastewater continues to flow through it. The specialist expertise required is uncommon, with an international drilling contractor engaged to help deliver this high-risk precision work. About the role You will take overall responsibility for leading the project safely, commercially and operationally through to successful completion. You will work closely with Hastings District Council, consultants, specialist contractors and the Seipp project team to manage complex interfaces and maintain certainty across planning, programme, quality and commercial performance. This is a site-focused leadership role for someone who wants to understand the work properly, stay close to delivery and take ownership when challenges arise. What you’ll be doing Lead the project from its current stage through to completion Maintain oversight of safety, quality, programme and commercial performance Manage budgets, forecasting, cost control, variations and claims Administer the contract and protect Seipp’s commercial position Lead detailed construction planning and staging around live operations Coordinate civil, mechanical, electrical and specialist work Manage subcontractors and international specialist partners Build trusted relationships with the client, consultants and key stakeholders Lead, coach and develop Project Engineers, Site Engineers and site teams Identify technical, commercial and delivery risks early Develop practical solutions to complex construction challenges Ensure project reporting, documentation and compliance requirements are completed properly What we’re looking for You will be an experienced civil infrastructure project leader with the confidence and judgement to take ownership of technically demanding work. You will ideally bring: Significant experience leading complex civil infrastructure projects in New Zealand Strong commercial and financial-management capability A thorough understanding of New Zealand construction contracts and contract administration Practical construction knowledge and strong technical judgement Experience delivering work within live or operational environments Experience coordinating multiple construction disciplines and specialist subcontractors Strong planning, staging and risk-management capability The ability to work through complex problems and make sound decisions Strong client and stakeholder relationship skills A visible and collaborative leadership style A genuine commitment to developing engineers and site teams Experience in water or wastewater treatment, pump stations, large-diameter pipelines, process infrastructure or projects combining civil and mechanical construction would be advantageous.
