As we expand our activities in New Zealand, we are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead our engineering function and support the development, implementation, and delivery of new energy projects.

The successful candidate will play a key role in developing practical and commercially viable energy solutions, managing engineering projects, coordinating technical teams and contractors, and ensuring projects comply with relevant New Zealand engineering, electrical, safety, and environmental requirements.

Position Summary \n

The Engineering Manager will be responsible for planning, managing, and delivering engineering projects associated with Deep Energy Limited's new energy development programme in New Zealand.

\n

The role will combine technical leadership, project management, engineering design oversight, supplier and contractor coordination, regulatory compliance, and commercial evaluation .

\n

The Engineering Manager will work closely with senior management, engineers, technology partners, equipment suppliers, contractors, consultants, and other stakeholders to bring new energy projects from concept and feasibility through design, implementation, commissioning, and ongoing improvement.

Key Responsibilities \n

\n
• Lead the planning, design, development, and implementation of new energy engineering projects in New Zealand.
\n
• Manage engineering activities across project feasibility, system design, procurement, installation, testing, commissioning, and operational handover.
\n
• Develop and review technical specifications, engineering drawings, system designs, equipment requirements, and project documentation.
\n
• Provide technical leadership to engineers, technicians, contractors, consultants, and external technology partners.
\n
• Evaluate renewable and new energy technologies and determine their technical and commercial suitability for New Zealand projects.
\n
• Support projects involving electrical power systems, renewable generation, energy storage, power conversion, energy management, and associated infrastructure.
\n
• Coordinate technical discussions with equipment manufacturers, suppliers, network companies, contractors, and professional advisers.
\n
• Prepare project plans, engineering schedules, budgets, resource requirements, and technical risk assessments.
\n
• Monitor project progress, engineering quality, costs, milestones, and contractor performance.
\n
• Identify technical risks and develop practical engineering solutions to address design, installation, integration, reliability, and operational issues.
\n
• Ensure engineering activities comply with applicable New Zealand standards, electrical requirements, health and safety obligations, building requirements, and environmental regulations.
\n
• Establish engineering procedures, quality-control processes, testing requirements, and technical documentation standards.
\n
• Review proposals, quotations, tenders, equipment specifications, and contractor submissions.
\n
• Support procurement and selection of major equipment, technology platforms, engineering services, and project contractors.
\n
• Oversee testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, performance verification, and technical acceptance of completed systems.
\n
• Work with management to develop the company's longer-term technology and new energy development strategy.
\n
• Provide engineering advice and technical reports to directors and senior management.
\n
• Maintain effective project records, engineering documentation, operating manuals, and compliance documentation.
\n
• Support continuous improvement, innovation, energy efficiency, sustainability, and future product development.
\n

Candidate Requirements \n

The ideal candidate will have:

\n

\n
• A bachelor's degree or higher qualification in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Energy Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Power Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering , or another relevant engineering discipline.
\n
• Relevant professional experience in engineering management, energy infrastructure, electrical systems, renewable energy, utilities, industrial engineering, or related technology projects.
\n
• Strong understanding of engineering project development from concept through commissioning.
\n
• Experience managing engineers, contractors, suppliers, and multidisciplinary project teams.
\n
• Strong technical knowledge of electrical or energy systems.
\n
• Experience with renewable energy, distributed energy resources, battery energy storage, solar, EV infrastructure, smart energy systems, or power-system technology would be advantageous.
\n
• Good knowledge of engineering risk management, quality control, testing, commissioning, and technical documentation.
\n
• Strong project-management and organisational skills.
\n
• Ability to assess both the technical and commercial aspects of engineering projects.
\n
• Strong problem-solving and analytical capability.
\n
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
\n
• Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
\n
• Familiarity with New Zealand engineering standards, electrical regulations, health and safety requirements, and local project-development processes would be advantageous.
\n
• The ability to work independently while also leading and developing an engineering team.
\n
