About the Role As a Registered Nurse in the Acute Pain Service (APS), you will provide specialist nursing care to patients who have been referred to the Acute Pain Service following surgery or admitted via ED who may not require surgery. Working in a highly skilled environment, you will assess, monitor, and support patients with their pain management until they have been discharged from the Acute Pain service. As a Registered Nurse within the Acute Pain Service (APS), you will provide specialist nursing care to patients referred to the service following surgery, as well as patients admitted through the Emergency Department who require acute pain management and may not undergo surgical intervention. In addition to providing specialist pain management, you will be working within a highly skilled multidisciplinary team in collaboration with Anaesthetic Specialists, Clinical Nurse Specialists, and multidisciplinary teams. The role involves supporting evidence‑based pain management practices, conducting comprehensive pain assessments, monitoring of patient progress, patient and whānau education, and promoting safe, effective pain relief to optimise patient recovery and outcomes. About the Team / Service / Location Our Perioperative Service provides safe, high quality care for patients undergoing a wide range of surgical procedures across Hawke's Bay. The PACU team is a dedicated group of skilled nurses and healthcare professionals who work collaboratively to deliver expert postoperative care and support. The successful candidate will work closely with the Acute Pain Service, supporting patients with complex postoperative pain needs and contributing to ongoing education and best‑practice pain management across the perioperative service. Based at Hawke's Bay Fallen Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, you will join a supportive and professional team committed to clinical excellence, continuous learning, and outstanding patient care. About you Current Nursing Council of New Zealand registration and a current Annual Practising Certificate. Postgraduate nursing experience in surgical, perioperative, critical care, or acute care settings. Advanced assessment and clinical decision making skills. Excellent communication, teamwork, and time management abilities. A commitment to professional development, Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles, and equitable health outcomes. Experience in postoperative pain management, including PCA and epidural therapy, or a willingness to develop expertise in acute pain management.
