Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the Role As an Analyst or Senior Analyst in our team, you’ll work on some of the most significant economic and fiscal issues facing New Zealand, contributing to advice that helps shape Government decisions. You’ll have the opportunity to work across a range of policy areas, including tax, regional development, science and innovation, immigration, and labour market settings. The work is varied, often fast-paced, and frequently connected to high-profile government priorities. You will work closely with colleagues across the Treasury and other government agencies, contributing to advice for Ministers and supporting major work programmes, including the Government’s annual Budget. In this role, you will: bring together economic analysis, policy advice and cross-government coordination to help Ministers make decisions contribute to Budget initiatives, policy reforms and other important work programmes help shape Treasury’s thinking on tax and economic development policy work with colleagues across the Treasury and government to develop robust, evidence-based advice apply analytical thinking to complex problems, balancing trade-offs across economic, fiscal, implementation and risk factors. In addition to a tertiary qualification, you will bring: excellent written and verbal skills with the ability to communicate complex issues clearly intellectual curiosity and receptiveness to different viewpoints analytical ability and an aptitude for critical thinking the ability to build positive working relationships and collaborate with a range of people to develop practical solutions initiative, adaptability, and a desire to learn and grow Experience in public policy and an understanding of economic frameworks would be beneficial but is not essential. If you are a quick learner who enjoys working with others to navigate complex issues and develop solutions, we’d like to hear from you. For a Senior Analyst role, applicants will typically have at least four and a half years of relevant experience. Mō mātou | About Us The Revenue and Economic Development team sits within the Economic Performance Division and plays a key role in providing evidence-based policy advice that supports stronger microeconomic settings across New Zealand. As part of Treasury's wider economic policy function, the team contributes to shaping Treasury’s thinking on a range of complex economic issues. Analysts and Senior Analysts work closely with each other and with Principal Advisors and Managers who are committed to delivering high-quality outcomes while supporting the professional growth and development of team members. The team is collaborative, flexible, and intellectually curious, bringing together people with diverse backgrounds and perspectives. A key part of our work is to maintain strong relationships with key economic agencies, including the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment and Inland Revenue. Together, we focus on providing robust analysis and advice on critical economic levers that support a more resilient, productive, and dynamic economy.
