Duty Nurse Manager Auckland Regional Forensic Psychiatric Services - 0.6 fteHealth New Zealand- Te Whatu Ora, Waitematā District Part time, Permanent (48 hours per fortnight)Based at Mason Clinic, Pt Chevalier, Auckland Mauri Ora! About us The Auckland Regional Forensic Psychiatry Service, or the Mason Clinic as it is often known, is the largest Forensic Mental Health Service in New Zealand. We serve the four Northern Districts Health Boards including all courts in the northern region and five prisons. The clinical pathways in the ARFPS are formed by the integration of six subservice streams. Justice and Short Term Care stream (JSTC) comprising an acute and subacute male pathway in Kauri and Totara and a female service of four beds in E Tū Tanekaha. This stream is operationally and functionally linked to the Forensic Prison Team and the Forensic Court Liaison teams. The `Justice arm of the stream focuses on deliverables in prison and courts. Tari Kaupapa Māori Extended Forensic Care and Rehabilitation (EFCR) stream comprising Te Aka and Tane Whakapiripiri. This stream also hosts Pacifica (but not exclusively). A mixed gender EFCR stream within E Tū Tanekaha (known as EFCR Stream 1) A male only EFCR stream comprising Rata and Kahikatea (known as EFCR Stream 2). A secure inpatient Intellectual Disability service with a community based consult liaison service known as IDOLS (Intellectually Disabled Offenders Liaison Service) providing after-care or parallel community based care. The Forensic Community Reintegration Service comprising the Rimu open Hostel and the Forensic Community Team. Respite beds for emergency readmission are housed in Totara. These clinical pathways support recovery, enable tāngata whai i te ora and whānau involvement and are anchored in the recognition of principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi (kawanatanga, ritenga, oritenga, and mana Motuhake). About the Role Are you an experienced nurse leader ready to take on a pivotal role in hospital operations after hours? We are seeking Duty Nurse Managers to provide senior nursing leadership, ensuring safe, high-quality care and smooth operational management across inpatient areas during evenings, nights, weekends, and public holidays. This role is central to maintaining clinical safety, capacity planning, and variance response management, while supporting the after-hours teams to deliver the best outcomes for patients and their whānau. Functional Purpose To provide after-hours leadership and coordination of hospital services, ensuring operational systems, processes, and resources function effectively to meet the needs of staff, patients, families, and the community. Accountabilities & Responsibilities Clinical Leadership: Support and guide nursing teams to maintain safe, high-quality care. Operational Oversight: Manage inpatient areas, bed flow, and resource allocation after hours. Capacity Planning: Respond to variances and ensure optimal patient care. Coordination: Oversee operational systems and processes to enable effective site functioning. Collaboration: Work closely with afterhours teams to address challenges and maintain service standards. Skills & Experience Registered Nurse with current NZ Nursing Council Annual Practising Certificate. Minimum 5 years post-registration experience, including 2 years in an acute or forensic setting. Current portfolio. Postgraduate nursing qualification (or working towards diploma/ Masters). Previous experience in senior nursing leadership is highly desirable. Strong ability to plan, organise, and direct activities of others. Excellent communication and decision-making skills under pressure.
