Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Psychiatrist to join our team at Te Whetu Tawera. This is a permanent part‑time (0.6 FTE) role, Monday to Friday, with a requirement to participate in the on‑call roster. Overview Te Whetu Tawera is the Adult Acute Inpatient Mental Health Unit for Auckland District Health Board, serving the central Auckland population. The 58‑bed unit includes a 12‑bed ICU. A dedicated team of Psychiatrists, Nurses and Allied Health staff provide assessment, diagnosis and treatment for adults with serious mental illness and severe psychological disorders. We collaborate with the service user, family/whānau and 8 community mental health teams to promote recovery. Responsibilities Provide assessment, diagnosis and treatment for adults with serious mental illness and severe psychological disorders. Collaborate with service users, their family/whānau, and community mental health teams to promote recovery. Participate in the adult mental health consultant on‑call roster. Engage with multidisciplinary teams and contribute to inpatient clinical teams (Consultant, Registrar, House Officer). Deliver supervision and support within a busy clinical teaching environment. Qualifications Medical practitioner registered with the Medical Council of New Zealand and eligible for Vocational Registration in Psychiatry. Annual Practising Certificate. Special interest in adult acute inpatient psychiatry. Excellent communication skills and a proactive, enthusiastic approach to inpatient care.
