Curriculum delivery and assessment (core focus)

Literacy and numeracy : Design and deliver highly effective teaching programmes in structured reading, writing, and mathematics that are differentiated to meet the diverse needs of all learners, ensuring accelerated progress for every student.

Assessment and data : Use a variety of valid and reliable assessment tools (formative and summative) to accurately track, monitor, and report on student progress in core subjects.

Targeted intervention : Implement evidence-based interventions for students who require additional support in literacy and numeracy, and extend high-achieving learners.

Curriculum blending : Plan and execute integrated units of inquiry that weave together the learning areas of science, social sciences, technology, and the arts, ensuring meaningful connections and deep understanding.

Future focus : Foster key competencies, including critical thinking, problem-solving, digital literacy, and collaboration, preparing students for the demands of the 21st century.

Hauora (wellbeing) : Embed health and physical education and promote a culture of wellbeing (hauora) and responsible citizenship (kaitiakitanga).

Te reo : Be developing your own te reo Maori competence while weaving te reo throughout the day in interactions with students and whanau.

Learning environment and professional practice

Culture : Establish a stimulating, positive, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes Manaakitanga (care and respect) and strong learner agency.

Relationship management : Maintain clear, proactive, and respectful communication with students, whanau (families), and colleagues regarding learning programmes and student progress.

Professional growth : Actively participate in professional development and collaborative practices across the school to continually improve pedagogy and curriculum knowledge.

You will :

Hold a current New Zealand practising certificate (or eligibility for registration).

Demonstrated successful experience teaching the Y5–6 age group

Proven expertise in accelerating student achievement, particularly in core literacies and numeracy.

A track record of designing engaging, integrated, and responsive curriculum programmes.

Strong commitment to bicultural practice and knowledge of Te Ao Maori.
