Te Ao Hou Trust is a kaupapa Māori organisation committed to the wellbeing of whānau and hāpori through integrated health, social, and community services.

Mō te tūranga | About the Role

We are seeking a visionary Chief Executive Officer to lead Te Ao Hou Trust into its next phase of growth. This is a multifaceted leadership, highly relational role responsible for strategic direction, operational excellence, maintaining financial sustainability, a trusted leader who can connect authentically with staff and whānau.

You will report directly to the Board of Trustees and work closely with kaimahi, whānau, and stakeholders to uphold their kaupapa and deliver meaningful outcomes. What matters is your alignment with their values, respect for tikanga, and ability to lead with humility in a kaupapa Māori environment.

Ngā Kawenga Matua - Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic, operational, and cultural direction of Te Ao Hou Trust.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans in collaboration with the Board of Trustees.
  • Oversee financial management, budgeting, reporting, and organisational viability.
  • Manage contracts, compliance, and performance across health and social services.
  • Build and support a high-performing team with strong HR systems and professional development.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with iwi, hapū, whānau, government agencies, health professionals, and community networks.
  • Ensure the Trust meets its legal, constitutional, and contractual obligations.
  • Uphold kawa and tikanga in all aspects of leadership and service delivery.
  • Promote and foster a workplace culture of learning, achievement, and whānau wellbeing.
  • Ko tau nā i tēnei tūranga | What you’ll bring to the role

  • Proven executive leadership experience (CEO or GM level), ideally in kaupapa Māori or community-based organisations.
  • Outstanding relationship-building and communication skills.
  • Strong financial acumen and contract management expertise.
  • A collaborative, people-first leadership style grounded in integrity and humility.
  • Experience delivering strategic growth and operational excellence.
  • Knowledge of te reo me ōna tikanga and strong local connections are a bonus.

    The CEO may be required to travel across a wide geographical area which will require travel including rural and remote areas within the Eastern Bay of Plenty and Tāirawhiti.
