About the Role
In this key frontline role at Environment Canterbury you'll respond to community concerns, investigate issues, and ensure compliance with General Bylaws, permitted activities under the regional plan, and the Resource Management Plan.
Your work will make a tangible difference for people and the environment.
In This Role You'll
Respond to and investigate Requests for Service (RFS) from the community, including illegal dumping, noise complaints, dust, smoke and odour complaints.
You will also respond to earthwork disturbances and stormwater / wastewater issues.
Gather and record information accurately, using Council databases to track and analyse trends.
Educate the public on environmental rules and bylaws, providing clear, friendly guidance.
Take enforcement action when necessary, balancing empathy with clarity and transparency.
Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring customers are informed and supported.
About You
You'll be empathetic, accountable, adaptable, and organised.
You hold a tertiary degree in a relevant field (risk / compliance management, environmental science, law, biology, etc.) or at least two years of transferable experience.
Current full Driver's Licence.
Strong customer service, communication and conflict-management skills.
Ability to read and interpret plans, diagrams, bylaws and regulations.
Computer database and keyboarding skills.
Experience
Ideally, you'll have :
Enforcement experience.
Knowledge of the Resource Management Act
Compliance monitoring experience.
Project management experience.
