About the Role - Korero mo te Turanga

We are seeking a Policy Analyst to join the Science, Innovation, and Workforce policy team.

As part of the Policy team, the Policy Analyst is responsible for supporting the overall capability of the team.

The role contributes to MPI's strategic goals by ensuring the sector is future-ready, resilient, and globally competitive.

The Policy Analyst gathers evidence, analyses policy issues, develops policy options and prepares policy advice for defined policy issues and contributes to larger, more complex projects where others have the accountability for the delivery of outputs.

As a Policy Analyst, you will get to work across government on a range of topics and facilitate engagement internally and with other agencies.

About You - Mou

The ideal candidate will be a good team player, a fast learner, and have excellent writing skills.

You will have a sound understanding of government processes, including Ministerial and Parliamentary processes.

Ideally, you will have some experience supporting Ministers by providing timely and relevant responses to Ministerial and Parliamentary questions, Official Information Act requests and preparing Ministerial correspondence.

About the Team - Mo to matou Ropu

You will work with a Wellington based team, reporting to the Manager, Science, Innovation, and Workforce policy, and work alongside other policy analysts within the team and the wider Directorate.

The team sits within the Strategy, Insights, and Evidence Directorate, in the Policy and Trade Branch, and works to deliver policy and system advice that supports innovation, science capability, and workforce development for New Zealand's primary industries (think, science system, technology, education, and immigration).

The team brings strong industry and sector knowledge and promotes strategic and wider systems thinking.

The team also provides advice to other departments on implications of government policy on the primary sector and acts as a conduit for communicating wider government policy back to the sector.

The team also works closely with the wider Policy and Trade Branch, other Branches of MPI, a range of government agencies, and industry so there is ample opportunity work with and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
