About the Role

The primary function of the Kaitakawaenga role is to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to improve the safety and quality of care for tangata whaiora and their whanau accessing our services.

You will liaise with Health New Zealand services, community services and other Kaupapa Maori organisations (e.g. marae, hapu and iwi) to increase access to specialist care and work as a key member of the team providing assessment, treatment and consultation, while taking account of socio-cultural and Kaupapa Maori issues relevant to the wellbeing of tangata whaiora within the context of their whanau.

About the Team / Service / Location

At Tumanako Inpatient Unit and He Manu Pae Sub-Acute Unit we provide a full range of alcohol and drug and mental health services including assessment; group, family / whanau and individual interventions; hospital-based therapies to people with co-existing mental health, alcohol and other drug misuse and addiction problems / disorders.

About you

Our ideal candidate will have :

Experience working Te Ao Maori and Te Ao Pakeha, working alongside tangata whaiora and their whanau living with the effects of mental illness and addictions.The ability to communicate and advocate for tangata whaiore and their whanau, collaborate effectively with other members of the team, and engage Maori in making choices that enhance their wellbeing.A commitment to improving health outcomes for Maori, cultural safety, care quality, and providing cultural recommendations to improve wellbeing is desired.Working at Health New Zealand
