McConnell Dowell is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Engineering Manager – Water to support the design, delivery, and growth of our expanding water sector portfolio. With major investment and momentum across the region, this is an exciting opportunity to influence some of the most complex and innovative water projects in Aotearoa and the Pacific.

From advanced water treatment facilities to large-scale pipelines and trenchless technology solutions, you’ll help shape industry-leading engineering outcomes, such as the first New Zealand application of the INVENT iSBR technology, implemented under our exclusive arrangement.

About the Role

As Engineering Manager – Water, you will provide leadership, governance, and technical oversight across tenders and projects in the water sector. You will partner closely with clients, design consultants, and construction teams to deliver safe, compliant, and commercially successful engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities :

• Lead and govern design and engineering activities across water sector tenders and projects.
• Drive innovation in water treatment, conveyance, trenchless methodologies, and emerging technologies.
• Manage design consultants to ensure compliance with legislation, codes, standards, project execution plans, and contractual requirements.
• Support tendering, methodology development, and winning work through method innovation and design management excellence.
• Oversee engineering delivery to achieve optimal cost, programme, and risk outcomes.
• Foster strong design partner relationships and promote McConnell Dowell as a partner of choice.
• Contribute to lessons learned, continuous improvement, and capability growth across the water sector team.
• Support engineering reviews, risk assessments, commissioning planning, and technical problem solving.
• Ensure design–construction interface issues are resolved efficiently and safely.
