Babcock is looking for an Engineering Team Lead (Electrical) to join the Engineering Change team based in Devonport, Auckland.

About the role

Step into a leadership role where your electrical engineering expertise directly supports the operational readiness of the New Zealand Defence Force naval fleet. As Engineering Team Lead (Electrical), you’ll guide a team of 10–15 engineers and technicians through complex design and integration projects, ensuring every Engineering Change Proposal (ECP) meets rigorous standards. You’ll be at the heart of technical decision-making, risk management, and stakeholder engagement—driving innovation and precision in every solution delivered.

About you

You are a seasoned electrical engineer with a strong background in defence or complex systems design. You thrive in leadership roles, guiding teams to deliver high-quality solutions on time and within budget. Your technical decisions are grounded in deep expertise and a commitment to safety, compliance, and innovation. You communicate clearly, manage risk effectively, and build strong relationships across disciplines. You’re ready to take ownership, act as a technical authority, and drive continuous improvement in a dynamic engineering environment.

Key Required Skills

  • Electrical design and integration expertise
  • Technical documentation review and approval
  • Risk assessment and mitigation
  • Team leadership and resource management
  • Stakeholder communication and engagement
  • Engineering lifecycle process improvement
  • Use of PLM / MRP and simulation tools

Key Required Qualifications

  • ~6 years relevant engineering experience
  • ~3 years engineering team management experience
  • Membership of a relevant engineering institution
  • Working towards Chartered status with CPD commitment
