We have a newly created role as Tour Guide to join our talented team at Dark Sky Project.
This position offers the unique combination of guiding as well as driving our manuhiri (visitors).
Our world-class Astronomy Centre on Takapo lakefront brings to life the science of stars and Tatai Aroraki (Maori astronomy) through an immersive and engaging international experience.
This experience is a world-first and compliments the range of outdoor experiences that we currently offer to our domestic and international visitors to the region.
Our purpose is to make the connection - with our customers, through our people, to our place and to Ngai Tahu.
We take great pride in warmly welcoming manuhiri to our experiences and manaakitanga (hospitality) is one of the core values that drives the way we do business.
As hosts, we care for our manuhiri and our team as our own whanau.
A Little Bit About You
Minimum of 3 years relevant experience in astronomy or associated sciences (required if the listed qualification is not held)
Proven experience in public speaking and / or tour guiding
Demonstrated experience in a customer-facing role
Prior experience in the tourism industry is desirable
New Zealand Diploma in Astronomy (Level 4) or an equivalent qualification (required if the above work experience is not met)
Valid Driver's Licence
Current P endorsement or ability to obtain one
Class 2 Driver's Licence or ability to obtain one
First Aid Certificate or ability to obtain one
Has safety at the heart of everything they do
Is conscientious and understands the importance of conducting routine vehicle inspections before every tour and maintaining accurate driver logbooks
Strong time management
Has a passion to learn and correctly pronounce reo Maori names and terms
