Salary band - $146,436 - $210,134

Commencement date : Sunday, 1 February 2026

About the role

Be part of a close-knit team of six registrars and thirteen consultants with exposure to a wide range of cases, including the following :

Orthopaedic arthroplasty and trauma

Urology and colorectal surgery

Obstetrics

Visiting specialties including ENT, plastic, paediatric specialist surgery and spinal

Exposure to critical care when required

Providing elective and emergency services to the community, as well as acute pain management to patients following surgery or trauma, or during labour.

One year of accredited training at any level for ANZCA trainees.

You will have 24 / 7 access to the library, weekly teaching and grand rounds, journal clubs, regular RMO forums, and exposure to a range of presentations to the hospital – all of which will equip you with a broad skill base to serve you well as you progress in your career.

About the location

The main cities and towns in the Southern District include Dunedin, Invercargill, Queenstown, and Wanaka.

Southern is world famous for its picturesque mountains, fiords, glaciers, coastlines, and lakes that are often depicted on postcards and movies.

But that's not all - it's also adventure-central with a great cultural and foodie scene.

About you

Our ideal candidate will have the following :

Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand or be eligible for general or provisional general registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.

A minimum of two years post qualification experience and at least twelve months anaesthesia experience

It is a requirement of the Medical Council of New Zealand that your qualifications are approved through EPIC.

If you have a commitment to working in New Zealand, it is highly recommended that you start this process as soon as possible to allow your subsequent registration to be undertaken in a timely fashion.
