' We're seeking a talented Senior Data Scientist to transform complex data into actionable insights that drive decision-making across the NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) and the wider Transport sector.

You'll use your expertise in statistical modelling, machine learning, and programming (R, Python, SQL) to analyse and interpret data, develop reproducible code, and deliver evidence-based outcomes.

This role combines technical expertise with the ability to tell compelling stories through data visualisation, plain-English reporting, and collaboration across teams.

Experience with Azure, Databricks, and innovative approaches to solving new problems will set you apart.

We are seeking to appoint at a salary between $109,408 - $145,876 commensurate to skills and experience.

To be successful in this role, you will bring :

Knowledge of, and experience with, statistical modelling techniques and the mathematical foundations of applied ML and AI algorithms and models.

An advanced level of statistical programming (SQL, Python or R programming is preferred)

Proficient with versioning tools - Git

Experience using Cloud based services (ideally Microsoft Azure)

Preferably some experience with ModelOps / MLOps

An ability to build and maintain relationships

Good verbal and written communication skills

A relevant post graduate qualification in statistics or another discipline requiring the analysis of complex dataYou will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Maori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Maori.

You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of Te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public service.
