We're seeking a couple of dedicated Support Officers (Samples and Data) to help DOC track, receive, and process essential biodiversity samples from our field teams.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to meaningful ecological research while developing your skills in a dynamic environment!
The position will be focussed on : Tracking the lifecycle of samples and log them in our database upon receipt.Processing biodiversity samples following rigorous Quality Assurance (QA) steps according to established procedures.Utilising sample management systems to support the biodiversity monitoring program.Identifying and addressing QA issues, collaborating with the Technical Support Officer on patterns.Assisting with warehousing projects, and managing sample storage and archiving.Entering data collected by monitoring field staff.This is a full time, 6-month fixed term role, based on-site in our Lincoln office.Role DescriptionNga pukenga me nga wheako | Skills and experienceYou will be a team player with a strong technical background and is able to learn quickly.If you have some of following, we are keen to hear from you : a relevant qualification in biology, ecology, botany or the natural sciencesknowledge and practice experience in biodiversity monitoring methodsconfident handling of vascular samples, chew cards, and soil samplesexperience applying biosecurity best practice when processing samples in a laboratory environmentdata management and accurate data digitisation (data entry) experienceproficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excelexcellent instruction-following skills and a proactive approach to seeking clarificationstrong documentation skills to track progress effectivelycomfortable navigating office protocol with professionalismclear and confident communication skillsability to work both independently and as part of a teamworking and delivering to tight timeframes.Mo te tima | About the teamThe Monitoring and Insights Directorate focuses on developing system-wide intervention logic to describe how DOC achieves its outcomes; to not only deliver conservation, but also to tell the story of what was achieved with supporting evidence.Our key functions include research, planning, monitoring, analysis, reporting, infrastructure, frameworks, tools, processes, information management, and capability.He aha nga painga mou?
