OverviewPermanent / Full-time (minimum 32 hours per week)Lake Takapo / Tekapo / Mackenzie DistrictMo tatou, aa, mo ka uri a muri ake nei - for us and our children after us.We're looking for an experienced Sous Chef to join our passionate F&B team in our Dark Sky Diner.

This role will be responsible for assisting the Head Chef / Kaitunu matua to create extraordinary culinary delights for our manuhiri (visitors), so if you have a love of kai (food) and baking then this might be the opportunity for you!

Our world-class Astronomy Centre on Takapo lakefront brings to life the science of stars and Tatai aroraki (Maori astronomy) through an immersive and engaging international experience.

This experience is a world-first and compliments the range of outdoor experiences that we currently offer to our domestic and international visitors to the region.Our purpose is to make the connection - with our customers, through our people, to our place and to Ngai Tahu.We take great pride in warmly welcoming manuhiri to our experiences.

As hosts, we care for our customers and our team as our own whanau.ResponsibilitiesAssist the Head Chef / Kaitunu matua to create extraordinary culinary delights for visitors in the Dark Sky Diner.Apply skills across baking and kitchen operations, and manage time effectively.Maintain quality and consistency in food preparation and presentation.Support the kitchen team in a fast-paced environment, staying cool under pressure.Work shifts on weekdays, weekends and public holidays.QualificationsMinimum of three years' experience in a professional kitchen as a Sous Chef and / or NZ Diploma in Cookery (Level 5) or equivalent.Has a range of skills in the kitchen from baking through to time management.Eager to learn and correctly pronounce reo Maori names and terms.Strong communication and teamwork skills.Additional informationYou must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand to apply for this role.Interested in joining us?
