Job DescriptionAnalyst Spatial IntelligenceRole type : Permanent full-timeLocation : Wellington preferredSalary : $76,463 to $89,215 depending on skills and experienceAbout the RoleJoin our focussed Spatial Intelligence team, you will work with our internal customers across the Ministry, as well as other government agencies and external stakeholders.
The Analyst's provide spatial data analysis and modelling to inform on a range of organisation delivery decisions such as : Supporting sustainable wild fisheries and growing aquacultureBiosecurity preparedness and responseThe Emissions Trading SchemeLand use planningAs a Spatial Intelligence Analyst, you will also get the chance to be involved in new geospatial initiatives across the Ministry for which you will bring your experience with GIS and an advanced GIS education or skillset.This position primarily supports Fisheries New Zealand, with a strong focus on assessing catch volumes, suitability analysis, and work with fisheries science to understand the environmental impacts of fishing and aquaculture.
You'll also support MPI's obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi through customary fisheries and evaluate compliance with fishing regulations.
This will involve developing spatial and analytical workflows, making magnificent maps, and performing in-depth data analysis to inform sustainable fisheries management.Core responsibilities for the role include : Understand and apply legislative, regulatory, and policy requirements to our processes, outputs, and advice.Apply spatial analysis to support the regulatory and policy objectives, apply your GIS skills to assist primary industry related analysis and decision making.Support our understanding of Fish Farm impact, undertaking planning and suitability analysis.Assist in the investigation and creation of technical solutions (including scripting, automation, web applications) to aid in efficient data use and analysis methodologies.Apply independent initiative, critical thinking and problem solving, and produce high quality reports, analysis, and cartographic and infographic products.Use and maintain specified GIS data required to support intelligent spatial analysis.Contribute to the optimisation of policies, processes, procedures and tools to ensure a seamless way of working for users and customers.Provide peer reviews of spatial products and methodologies.Build and positive relations with internal and external stakeholders.About YouWorking with stakeholders and within the existing team to provide sound advice and spatial analysis requires a unique set of skills.
