Te Hiringa Mahara - Mental Health and Wellbeing Commission is a kaitiaki of mental health and wellbeing, leading improved mental health and wellbeing outcomes toward people in Aotearoa thriving together.

We have leadership and system level oversight roles of the mental health and addiction system with monitoring, reporting, advocacy, and engagement functions.

  • About the role

    The Senior Communications Advisor works alongside the Principal Communications Advisor in the ongoing development and implementation of our strategic communications plan. You will be part of a team advising and supporting the Chief Executive and Directors to support the organisation to be a bolder advocate, publicly holding to account and keeping the spotlight on mental health and wellbeing.

    Being part of a small team, this position gives you the opportunity to operate across all facets of communications and media management. Your expertise in supporting, developing, and implementing successful communication initiatives will help build the foundations that enable and influence improvements across the mental health and wellbeing system - now and into the future.

    Skills and experience

    The ideal candidate will be confident in proactive media work and have demonstrated experience liaising with editors and journalists to promote uptake of stories. You will also bring general communications skills, a strong interest and awareness of how to influence policy change, write communications products as needed, and support stakeholder engagement.

    The salary range is $110,824 - $135,452 (pro rata to hours worked). Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.
