Research Analyst

The Office of the Mayor at Far North District Council is seeking a Research Analyst to provide trusted, sound, and evidence-based advice to the Mayor and Elected Members. Your work will underpin informed decision‑making, strengthen public engagement, and support initiatives that reflect the priorities of the Mayor and the needs of our diverse Far North communities.

Te Wero – The Challenge

• Lead policy and strategic research on local, regional, and national issues that matter to the Far North.
• Monitor legislative developments and advise on their implications for our district.
• Prepare high‑quality briefing papers, reports, and submissions that influence outcomes at every level.
• Collect and interpret data to inform mayoral priorities and performance measures.
• Engage with iwi, community groups, and government agencies to bring diverse perspectives into governance.
• Support strategic planning, including the Long‑Term Plan and other key Council strategies.
• Drive innovative solutions and lead projects that advance the Mayor’s vision for the Far North.

The salary for this position is Grade 17 within Council's salary structure (Band : $94,208 to $110,833 pro rata per annum) dependent on qualifications and experience, plus Kiwi Saver.
