What You’ll Be Doing :

You’ll be a visible, guest-facing leader ensuring smooth daily operations across :

  • Haukai Bistro & Bar
  • Room Service
  • Meetings & Events (up to 200 delegates)

As part of the F&B leadership team, you’ll :

  • Support the Food & Beverage Manager in running the department
  • Maintain and improve service standards and procedures
  • Coach and motivate the team to perform at their best
  • Contribute to profitability and service excellence strategies
  • Be present during key service times
  • Act as senior contact when the F&B Manager is away
  • Your Key Responsibilities :

  • Deliver memorable guest experiences and manage feedback professionally
  • Lead by example, setting high standards on the floor
  • Support onboarding, training, and performance development
  • Coordinate service flow for events and group bookings
  • Oversee opening / closing duties, rosters, and stock control
  • Manage restaurant bookings and daily setups
  • Uphold food safety, liquor licensing, and Health & Safety standards
  • Participate in the Health & Safety Committee
  • Identify and implement service improvements
  • Step into leadership as second-in-command when required
  • What We’re Looking For :

  • Minimum 12 months in a similar supervisory or team leader role (hotel experience preferred)
  • Strong leadership presence — inspiring, calm, and accountable
  • High emotional intelligence and conflict resolution skills
  • Genuine passion for guest service and hospitality excellence
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multitask and stay composed in a busy environment
  • Confident with buffet, à la carte, and event service styles
  • Skilled in rostering, timesheets and team coaching
  • Familiar with POS systems (e.g., Micros)
  • Sound knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards
  • You’ll Stand Out If You Also Have :

  • High barista skills and strong wine, spirit, and cocktail knowledge
  • Professional grooming and presentation
  • Excellent English communication skills
  • Physical fitness (lifting up to 23kg)
  • A positive, motivated attitude that lifts the team
  • Qualifications :

  • LCQ and current Duty Manager’s Certificate (preferred)
  • Level 7 qualification or diploma in Hospitality Management (preferred)
  • Schedule & Availability :

    Rostered shifts across breakfast (as early as 04 : 45), lunch, and dinner (up to 23 : 00 or later). Weekends, public holidays, and split shifts apply as part of a rotating roster.

  • Compensation & Hours :

  • Pay rate : $30.35 – $30.96 per hour (depending on experience)
  • Permanent position, minimum 30 hours per week on rotating roster.
  • Based at Novotel New Plymouth Taranaki, Cnr of Hobson & Leach Streets, New Plymouth.
