Rārangi Utu ā-Mātauranga - Education Payroll is a Crown entity that delivers pay to schools and kura on behalf of the Ministry of Education. With around 200 employees, we deliver one of the largest and most complex payrolls in Australasia.

The combination of great people and cutting-edge technology enable us to pay around 102,000 teachers and support staff across around 2,500 schools accurately and on time every fortnight. That’s approximately $294 million a fortnight and $7.7 billion per annum.

In this leadership role you will support our ICT function and our continuous service improvement initiatives. You will work closely with the Head of Infrastructure Services, support partners and vendors. You will play a vital role in enhancing customer relationships, optimising service delivery and embedding a customer focus culture.

If successful, you’ll be appointed up to $140,000 depending on experience and capability.

Because of the highly collaborative nature of our work, Education Payroll is primarily an office-based workplace. Our office is in central Wellington, close to the train station for an easy commute. We do offer flexible working arrangements after our people have completed an initial training period.

Key accountabilities

  • Manage service delivery, lead a team of two IT Operations Analysts whose primary roles are Release and Change Manager.
  • Manage service level, availability, capacity, demand, continuity and service catalogues across the technology stack.
  • Support the technical and administrative aspects of release and deployment management across Education Payroll releases.
  • Responsible for organisation incident management and problem management, acting as incident manager during business hours for all major incidents.
  • Management of technology partners who provide IT infrastructure support.
  • Champion operational readiness, advocating for operational readiness activities to be completed for transition of new systems and solutions into business-as-usual operations (BAU).
  • Support continuous improvement across the wider Digital and Technology team.
  • A strong communicator and excellent customer service.
  • Strong ITIL understanding, preferably with certification.
  • Adaptable and flexible, able to work on multiple initiatives.
  • Capable to deliver timely and accurate operations support services.
  • Ability to work on complex processing systems.
