Women's Advocate

West Coast Women’s Refuge is seeking an experienced individual to support and advocate for women and their tamariki experiencing family violence across the West Coast.

This is a full‑time (40 hours per week) role, Monday to Friday, within office hours (approx. 8 : 30am–5 : 00pm), based in our Greymouth office. The position covers the wider West Coast, so regular travel throughout the region is required. You will also take part in an after‑hours roster providing crisis line support and safehouse intakes.

About the role

You’ll play a key role in ensuring women and children receive safe, respectful, empowering support. Key responsibilities include :

• Managing a client caseload and maintaining accurate, timely case notes (hard copy and database)
• Providing advocacy and practical support for women and children affected by family violence
• Attending meetings and representing the Refuge within the community
• Contributing to reporting and accountability requirements
• Participating in the after‑hours roster for crisis line calls and safehouse intakes

About you

We’re looking for someone who is motivated, values social justice, compassionate, proactive and can work both independently and as part of a supportive team. You will bring :

Experience in social services and / or an understanding of family violence is a strong advantage, however full training and induction will be provided to the successful applicant.

Applications close 18 December 2025, shortlisted candidates will be phone screened and interviews scheduled for the new year. The successful candidate will be required to complete a police vet, which can take up to 20 days to process, so start date likely end of January.
