Job description

This is a senior leadership role within a high-performing finance team, providing strategic financial leadership, technical expertise, and data-driven insights to support effective decision-making across a large, complex organisation.

As a Strategic Finance Business Partner, you’ll play a pivotal role in connecting finance with the wider business — ensuring alignment, collaboration, and delivery of high-value financial support. You will also lead and influence others across multiple projects and initiatives, often without direct reporting lines, driving performance and positive change.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic financial leadership, analysis and advice to senior leaders to enable informed decision-making.
  • Lead complex projects and initiatives, building financial capability and promoting a high-performance culture.
  • Partner with senior executives to develop financial strategy, long-term planning, and robust business cases.
  • Mentor and guide finance business partners, lifting capability across the team.
  • Prepare high-quality financial reporting, dashboards, and presentations for senior leadership.
  • Identify and manage financial risks, opportunities, and commercial viability of investments.
  • Support organisational performance through continuous improvement and customer-focused insights.

You will bring strong financial leadership capability and a proven ability to work across diverse and complex environments. With extensive senior management experience, you are commercially savvy, highly analytical, and a confident communicator. You thrive in influencing stakeholders, leading without direct authority, and navigating complex challenges with professionalism and pragmatism.

Key Skills And Experience

  • Extensive experience in senior business-facing finance roles within large, complex organisations (public or private sector).
  • Strong track record of stakeholder management and influencing at executive level.
  • Proven experience leading financial strategy, planning, and change initiatives.
  • Advanced analytical and strategic thinking capability with high data literacy.
  • Chartered Accountant (CAANZ) or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in accounting, business or management.
  • High standards of professionalism, delivery focus, and collaboration.
  • This is an opportunity to take on a role of significant impact and influence, where you will shape financial strategy and decision-making in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment. You will be part of a high-calibre team that values collaboration, innovation, and delivering meaningful outcomes for New Zealanders.

To apply for this vacancy you MUST be a New Zealand citizen, resident, or have already secured the right to work in New Zealand and therefore hold a valid visa.

At the appropriate stage we will request your references, we ask that you do not include them on your CV when applying.

We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all qualified candidates.
