Job Type : Fixed Term - Full Time

Location : Whangarei

Job Category : Biosecurity and Biodiversity

Northland Regional Council cares for Te Taitokerau Northland's environment and communities.

Does that resonate with you?

What work do we do?

We work together with tangata whenua and communities to care for the environment and many communities in our rohe, matching our skills and resources with the visions and aspirations of our people.

We work to protect and restore healthy waters and our native taonga, through meaningful partnerships with tangata whenua and communities, and to build more resilient and adaptable communities in a changing climate.

Opportunities

Join the front lines of freshwater protection in Te Taitokerau as a Check, Clean, Dry (CCD) Ambassador—a dynamic role where environmental advocacy meets community engagement.

The role is fixed term for 6 months and you will work full-time hours.

You must have flexibility to work some weekends and public holidays.

Responsibilities

Act as the face of biosecurity across lakes, rivers, and local events, sparking conversations and inspiring action to stop the spread of aquatic pests.

Inspect watercraft of all kinds—boats, kayaks, trailers—and ensure visitors are informed, certified, and surveyed.

Maintain compliance with council guidelines through hands-on inspections and watercraft washdowns.

Educate, empower, and protect the community through outreach, displays, and interactive displays.

Qualifications

Confident communicator with a passion for freshwater conservation and biosecurity.

Relevant science or biosecurity qualification a bonus but not essential.

Current full driver's licence and flexibility to travel across Te Taitokerau—including weekends and public holidays.

Current first aid certificate an advantage, but training can be provided.

NZ residency / citizenship, or a valid NZ work visa.
