Are you passionate about teaching in a Christian school? This is your opportunity!

Ponatahi Christian School is a coeducational, state-integrated area school (Y1–13) with around 130 students, set in a beautiful semi-rural location on the edge of Carterton in the Wairarapa. Our mission is “Enable young people to serve God and society.” We seek to live this out by teaching students according to God’s Word while nurturing them in every respect.

We are seeking a passionate, innovative, and dedicated teacher to teach in one of our upper primary classes. You will teach the New Zealand Curriculum in line with our Special Character, foster wellbeing through the PB4L framework, and set high expectations for every learner. The ability to teach Te Reo Māori would be a valuable advantage.

If you excel at engaging diverse learning styles, planning effective next steps, creating a positive classroom environment, and maintaining clear communication with caregivers, we would love to hear from you!

This is a permanent 0.6–1.0 FTE position (flexible), starting at the beginning of the 2026 school year. The final timetable will be determined during the appointment process. Flexibility to teach across a range of classes would be an advantage.

As this is a tagged position, the successful applicant will be able and willing to uphold the School’s Special Character.

We offer a supportive environment where staff are valued, encouraged, and equipped for growth. Collaboration is key, professional development is encouraged, and above all, we seek to honour the Lord in all that we do.

The terms and conditions, including base salary, are set by the New Zealand Area Schools’ Collective Agreement. The base salary for trained and registered teachers depends on qualifications and experience.
