Overview

About Us : McIntosh Orchard is a proud family-run business established in 1881, renowned for delivering exceptional fruit to our customers for generations. Building on this legacy, we’ve recently launched the 1881 Store, expanding our brand into the retail space. We’re now seeking a proactive and reliable Manager to help connect and support both our physical and online stores.

About the Role

This is a dynamic and varied role suited to someone self-motivated, detail-oriented, and eager to take initiative. You’ll be a key part of our team, especially during the busy harvest season, where a friendly and approachable attitude is essential.

Hours

Variable, typically between 35-45 hours per week, including weekdays and weekends (Monday to Sunday).

Responsibilities

  • Retail Store Management :

Oversee day-to-day operations of the retail store, including opening / closing procedures, merchandising, stock presentation, and cleanliness.

  • Provide leadership, training, and support to retail team members to ensure high standards of service and product knowledge.
  • Work on the retail floor to serve customers, assist with sales, and maintain a welcoming and professional environment.
  • Monitor and maintain stock levels, coordinating with suppliers and the orchard team to ensure timely replenishment.
  • Ensure all health, safety, and food handling standards are met in-store.
  • Online Store & Customer Service :
  • Provide prompt and professional responses to customer inquiries via email, phone, and social media.

  • Monitor and analyse stock levels across all distribution channels.
  • Resolve customer issues such as order cancellations, address changes, and delivery concerns.
  • Coordinate logistics for online order dispatch, including printing courier labels and gift cards, preparing products, and liaising with NZ Post and our packhouse.
  • Marketing & Communication :
  • Assist in creating and scheduling organic social media content and marketing emails.

  • Monitor and respond to social media comments and messages promptly.
  • Support weekly reporting on e-commerce sales, store performance, and social media engagement.
  • Contribute ideas for promotions, store displays, and seasonal campaigns.
  • General Administration & Leadership :
  • Organise rosters and coordinate staff scheduling.

  • Maintain records for health and safety compliance.
  • Provide hands-on support in the cool store and / or packhouse as needed.
  • Foster a positive, team-oriented work environment that reflects the values and professionalism of McIntosh Orchard.
  • Qualifications & To Thrive

  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Be confident in assisting customers both online and over the phone.
  • Be highly organised and accountable for your work.
  • Have a creative flair for social media and content creation.
  • Bring prior experience in customer-facing roles such as retail, hospitality, reception, or customer service.
  • Be familiar with platforms such as Shopify, CRMs, Meta Business Suite, and Canva.
  • Have suitable qualifications in this area.
