Year 8 Dean : Unique Leadership Opportunity

Southwell School, a leading co-educational day and boarding school for students in Years 1-8 in Hamilton, New Zealand, invites applications for a dynamic and inspiring Year 8 Dean.

We are currently implementing the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP).

This role offers an exciting chance to integrate leadership and curriculum expertise within an internationally minded framework.

Key Responsibilities and Expected Outcomes

Curriculum Leadership :

Plan and deliver engaging and relevant learning programmes that are both meaningful and fun, with a particular focus on strong outcomes in literacy and mathematics.

Ensure Year 8 teachers meet all administrative deadlines.

Administration :

Manage cohort budgets, RAMS, and EOY Y8 events.

Be prepared for all critical meetings with key personnel.

Collaborative Impact :

Collaborate closely with the teaching team, students, and parents / caregivers to promote the best student outcomes in academic, social, and emotional growth.

Student Well-being & Inclusion :

Demonstrate a strong commitment to student well-being and inclusive practices, ensuring every student feels valued, supported, and challenged.

School Culture :

Uphold and actively contribute to the school's special character and culture, embracing co-curricular life of the school with a willingness to dive into extra-curricular activities.

Foster connections with high schools, alumni, and other stakeholders as required.

What We Are Looking For

New Zealand Teacher Registration (full).

A relevant academic qualification (e.g., Bachelor's or Master's degree) and appropriate Teaching Qualifications.

Excellent curriculum knowledge with a knack for making learning accessible and exciting.

Strong organisational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.

The ability to relate effectively to young people, colleagues, and other stakeholders, building trust and positive relationships.

A collaborative spirit and a desire to grow alongside a supportive, forward-thinking team.
