About the Role

This is an exciting new position created as part of theNational HIV Action Plan. We are seeking a dedicated and proactive individualto lead HIV and syphilis contact tracing in collaboration with our Clinicalteams. This role is pivotal in supporting timely treatment, follow-up, andcommunity engagement to reduce transmission and improve sexual health outcomes.This role is responsible for providing a service from Ashburton toNelson / Blenheim and the Westcoast. Youwill work closely with your counterpart who will look after Timaru down toInvercargill. You will use a variety of contact methods including face to faceand telehealth. You may be required to travel, at times.

You’ll play a key role inadvancing sexual health initiatives, reducing transmission rates, andsupporting individuals and communities to access timely care. This is anopportunity to make a meaningful impact in a dynamic and supportiveenvironment.

  • Lead HIV and syphilis contact tracing processes alongside the CSHS team, Christchurch Hospital Infection ManagementService, Public Health, Primary care, and any other service that requiresspecialist contact tracing.
  • Maintain and organise follow-up appointments post-syphilis treatment.
  • Ensure completion of contact tracing and accurate documentation.
  • Support doctors' clinics with treatment coordination.
  • Conduct contact tracing discussions following treatment.
  • Monitor Emergency Department STI, HIV, and syphilis results, ensuring appropriate referral and treatment.
  • Complete follow-up blood tests and review results with the SMO team.
  • Provide outreach in the community for at-risk individuals and contacts.
  • Support Clinical staff in Infection ManagementService activities.
  • Deliver education and liaison support for community services.
  • About You

  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience in sexual health, public health, or community outreach is desirable.
  • Commitment to confidentiality, cultural safety, and patient-centred care.
