Based in either Dunedin, Invercargill, Queenstown.

Preference is Invercargill or Queenstown based with ability to travel frequently between offices. Dunedin based will be considered dependant on experience and ability to travel frequently.

At Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu (Te Kura), our ākonga are always at the centre of what we do. For more than a century, we've supported learners across Aotearoa — evolving from lessons once delivered on horseback to today's future focused learning that can be done anywhere, anytime.

Ākonga at Te Kura choose subjects based on their passions and interests, accessing learning online supported by kaiako who guide, inspire, and drive engagement. We're looking for a kaiako to join Southern region, a kaiako who can manaaki ākonga to engage, progress and achieve their goals within their personalised learning program. We are a kura who work across learning areas and levels to provide a one size fits one model. Te Kura is a unique organisation who supports the education ecosystem of Aotearoa | New Zealand.

In this role you will :

  • Lead, manage and support a multidisciplinary team of kaimahi
  • Assist with building a dynamic teaching and learning environment
  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality teaching and pastoral support to our ākonga
  • Utilise effective relationship building and communication skills

  • Engage with ākonga & whānau in Face to face and online contexts
  • Bring our local curriculum Te Ara Pounamu, to life for ākonga

Kaiako at Te Kura engage with our ākonga online and face-to-face at huinga ako (advisories) and events, and also work onsite with colleagues in our regional offices. Te Kura aims to provide flexible working arrangements, so Kaiako are able to request to work from home for up to two days per week.

As a Team Leader you will be able to thrive in a busy environment, show initiative, have excellent communication skills and be self-motivated. As well as this you will :

  • New Zealand teacher registration and a current practising certificate
  • Have a proven record of effective leadership of Kaiako
  • A track record of working positively to deliver on organisational strategic direction
  • Be an effective educational practitioner

  • Lead through māramatonutanga by the ongoing pursuit of knowledge and understanding
  • Foster whakawhanaungatanga by honouring mutually respectful relationships that strengthen everyone
  • Be committed to progressing in your te reo Māori journey in a real and authentic way
  • At Te Kura, we live by our values :

  • Manaaki — showing respect, generosity, and care
  • Tika — acting fairly and honestly
  • Ākonga at the Centre — guiding every decision we make
  • You'll join a supportive, inclusive team where manaaki and whanaungatanga guide how we work. We offer flexible working options, professional growth opportunities, and the chance to make a meaningful difference for ākonga across Aotearoa.

If you're ready to bring our values to life and support learners in meaningful ways, we'd love to hear from you.
