We're looking for a Scientist to join our Research & Science team on a 12-month fixed-term contract covering parental leave.
This role contributes to research that strengthens the sustainability, profitability, and productivity of New Zealand dairy farms.
You'll apply your farm systems expertise to analyse diverse farm-level data, integrate insights across animal, environmental, and economic dimensions, and translate findings into practical knowledge and insights for farmers.
You'll work within a multidisciplinary team while independently managing relationships and deliverables across DairyNZ and external research partners.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct research using contemporary farm systems methods relevant to New Zealand's pasture-based dairy systems.
Manipulate and analyse data using R, integrating diverse data sources to uncover insights.
Design and deliver research plans, manage timelines and budgets.
Collaborate with internal and external partners to ensure research is practical, relevant, and aligned with farmer needs.
Communicate findings through reports, presentations, and industry publications to a range of audiences including farmers, industry, and academia.
Contribute to DairyNZ's science strategy and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
Postgraduate qualification in Agricultural Science, Farm Systems, Animal Science, Agronomy, or a related field.
Demonstrated farm systems knowledge and understanding of pasture-based dairy farming.
Proficiency in R for data manipulation and analysis.
Excellent relationship management and communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences.
Self-motivation, strong organisational skills, and ability to manage work independently.
