Babcock is looking for an Engineering Project Manager to join the Engineering Change team based in Devonport, Auckland.

About the role

Step into a pivotal role where your project management expertise directly supports the operational readiness of the Royal New Zealand Navy. As Project Manager, you’ll lead the delivery of Engineering Change projects that enhance fleet capability and sustainment. You’ll work alongside defence stakeholders, engineers, planners, and subcontractors to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest safety and quality standards.

About you

You are a confident and experienced project manager with a background in engineering or maritime environments. You thrive in high-stakes, multi-stakeholder settings and bring strong leadership, communication, and risk management skills. You’re comfortable navigating defence protocols and understand the importance of fleet readiness. You’re proactive, solutions-focused, and committed to continuous improvement. Key Required Skills

  • Lead and control project scope, budget, schedule, and risk to deliver operational capability enhancements.
  • Deliver multiple concurrent projects within approved budgets and schedules, ensuring compliance with Defence standards and Babcock quality systems.
  • Build strong relationships with RNZN, engineering teams, and subcontractors to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Foster collaboration and communication across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in project delivery and performance.

Key Required Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering
  • Formal Project Management Qualification (desirable)
  • Experience in Defence, maritime, or complex engineering environments.
  • Contract administration experience
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Project
