The opportunity
In this Senior role as Head of Cyber Security, reporting to the GM Technology, you will provide strategic and operational leadership for TVNZ’s cyber security function, ensuring the protection and resilience of our systems and data.
You will define and deliver a forward-looking cyber security strategy and governance framework that supports TVNZ’s business objectives and digital transformation while maintaining trust, compliance, and readiness in an evolving risk landscape. As TVNZ’s senior security leader, you will oversee day-to-day security operations, incident response, risk management, and the ongoing maturity of our cyber capability. You will ensure TVNZ has the right policies, processes, and partnerships in place to detect, respond to, and recover from security threats effectively. The Head of Cyber Security works collaboratively across the business to embed a culture of security awareness and accountability. To be successful, you will need a high level of technical knowledge and a problem-solving mindset.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic and operational leadership for TVNZ’s cyber security function, ensuring protection and resilience of systems and data.
- Define and deliver a forward-looking cyber security strategy and governance framework aligned with business objectives and digital transformation.
- Oversee day-to-day security operations, incident response, risk management, and ongoing maturity of cyber capability.
- Develop and implement policies, processes, and partnerships to detect, respond to, and recover from security threats.
- Foster a culture of security awareness and accountability across the organization.
Qualifications
10+ years in leading cyber security in complex organizations, ideally within media, broadcasting, or other 24 / 7 environments.Strong understanding of security operations, threat intelligence, incident management, and risk frameworks (e.g., ISO 27001, NIST, CIS).Advanced hands-on experience with security standards including NIST, Essential 8, ISO 27001, ASD, OWASP, ISM, and VPDSS.Experience leading major incident response teams, overseeing vulnerability management and risk assessments.Proven ability to balance risk management with business needs, enabling innovation while safeguarding critical assets.Strong leadership skills with experience developing high-performing teams and building a culture of accountability and awareness.Excellent stakeholder engagement skills; able to influence senior leaders and communicate complex issues in plain language.Knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements relevant to New Zealand, including privacy and data protection obligations.Experience working with vendors, external partners, and regulators on security and risk matters.Hands-on experience in designing cyber security principles, frameworks, tools, policies, and incident management.Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to lead responses to incidents.Strategic thinker with the ability to anticipate future threats and prepare the organization accordingly.Apply
