FTE 1.0 permanent, start date 26 January 2026.

Haeata Community Campus – Y1–13 area school

We are seeking a permanent counsellor , to work within our Hauora team, alongside another counsellor, social worker and other external providers.

About the role

The counsellor will :

  • Provide individual and group counselling for ākonga with a range of social, emotional, and behavioural needs.
  • Work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team, including learning support staff, social workers, and outside professionals.
  • Contribute to a schoolwide culture of wellbeing and safe practice.
  • Support initiatives that strengthen resilience, belonging, and positive relationships among ākonga.

Applicant(s) will need to :

  • Be skilled in building trusting relationships with ākonga, whānau, and staff.
  • Have experience in working with children and / or young people, and be committed to engaging with whānau as much as possible.
  • Be willing to work in creative ways, including group programmes and activities, that engage tamariki and rangatahi.
  • Be committed to working collaboratively with the team members, whānau, staff and external partners to provide counselling and wellbeing services for our school community.
  • Have a strong understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and apply its principles in their everyday practice.
  • Demonstrate cultural competence and a commitment to working effectively with Māori, Pasifika, and diverse learners.
  • Be reflective, empathetic, and committed to continuous professional growth.
  • Have a clear understanding of ethical practice, confidentiality, and professional boundaries.
  • Qualifications and requirements :

  • Relevant qualification in counselling (e.g. Bachelor of Counselling or equivalent)
  • Be a trained teacher and hold current registration
  • Membership (or eligibility) with NZAC, NZCCA, or an equivalent professional body.
