Lead Marketing and Communications Advisor

We are looking for an exceptional marketing and communications leader who can think strategically, act decisively, and motivate people to change behaviours that build long‑term community resilience.

About the role

As the Lead Marketing & Communications Advisor , you will be the driving force behind how the Wellington region understands, prepares for, and responds to emergencies. Your work will shape public behaviour, influence community readiness, and support life‑saving outcomes during real events.

Based at our Thorndon office, you will work closely with teams across WREMO and the nine councils of the Wellington Region to deliver outcomes from the CDEM Group Strategy 2025‑35 , Group Plan and WREMO's Annual Plan.

Skills and experience required

• Tertiary qualification, preferably in marketing and communications.
• At least five years' experience delivering effective and innovative marketing and communication campaigns.
• Experience creating strategic marketing and communication plans.
• Experience delivering a variety of channel assets, including rich media online ads, microsites, and social media applications.
• Experience managing successful social media campaigns, and a solid understanding of social marketing.
• Demonstrated ability to absorb information, analyse situations, take advice, formulate strategies and plans, then implement and evaluate outcomes.
• Experience in Emergency / Response Management or a related environment.
• Success at building effective relationships with staff and key stakeholders designed to harness the synergies that come with partnership.
• Experience leading a concept through to delivery.
• Extensive skill in the use of Microsoft Office suite; design programmes (preferred).

The remuneration for this position, inclusive of all benefits, is $100,478 to $150,717, with a midpoint of $125,598. Starting remuneration will depend on the skills and experience of the successful applicant.
